The house of Stephanus
1Co 16:15 I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints,)
The house of Stephanas was the first family to get converted in the city of Achaia and they became addicted to the ministry. Yes, you heard that right, while its not okay to be addicted to somethings the ministry is a good thing to be addicted too. addicted means - a person who is addicted to an activity or habit. to habituate or abandon (oneself) to something compulsively or obsessively. Wow, think how awesome it would be to have a whole congregation with that type of mentality! The other verses give us some of the benefits that being addicted to the ministry led too.
1Co 16:16 That ye submit yourselves unto such, and to every one that helpeth with us, and laboureth.
1Co 16:17 I am glad of the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus: for that which was lacking on your part they have supplied.
1Co 16:18 For they have refreshed my spirit and yours: therefore acknowledge ye them that are such.
These verses teach that:
The church at Corinth was to submit themselves to the household of Stephanas so that they might learn how to be Christians. ministry addiction makes you a leader.
The house of Stephanas coming to visit encouraged Paul, and also they made up for what the church at Corinth wasn't accomplishing. ministry addiction makes you get things done for Jesus.
The house of Stephanas literally brought revival to the church at Corinth!
Addiction to the ministry will restore the joy of your salvation.
